Yesterday I got to draw live for the first time in my life at Yrittäjämessut in Liminka. I have always imagined drawing at an event such as this would be very intimidating, but in reality it was quite exhilarating.

Although it was the first time Liminka held such an event, there were surprisingly many visitors and entrepreneurs promoting their services. I had brief discussions with visitors among drawing, but also with fellow entrepreneurs.

Right next to me there sat this man, Markku “Make” Korhonen, who has build a castle on his estate with his bare hands! It’s called Liisanlinna. I remember how fun it was when I visited it as a kid; we fought there with swords and explored the numerous secret passages. It’s bizarre to think someone gets such an idea and then actually builds it for real! When I asked him: “How did you get this kind of idea in the first place?” he replied: “I just sat in my office one day and it dropped in my head: build a castle!”

With Make, we discussed the value of actively developing skills to build and create traditionally, especially nowadays when the digital world is growing bigger and bigger. He pointed out that in the upcoming 10 to 20 years these skills will likely be even more valued than today. Why? At some point, we become bored at the massive quantities of computer-generated, picture-perfect content that we can get at the push of a button. Using our own brain and developing our unique skills, as slow as it might feel in a fast-paced digital world, is invaluable to us!

Here is what I came up with after the three-hour event (The subject fit well with my neighbour’s adventure theme). Although I feel it’s still incomplete, I wanted to leave it so, to serve both as a nice memory and a comparison piece for the future, when I draw live the next time!
